1. Responda:

a) Research about how math contributes to science, take notes in your notebook and make a mind map to show the main ideas.

b) Let’s think about science and math. In your opinion, what is the importance of science in the world?

2. Leia e responda:

a) Science involves “results of studies” from different areas of knowledge. Read the definitions of the words below and answer the questions in Portuguese.

Science “is knowledge from the careful study of the structure and behavior of the physical world, especially by watching, measuring, and doing experiments, and the development of theories to describe the results” of studies.

Math “the study of numbers, shapes, and space using reason and usually a special system of symbols and rules for organizing them.”

Language “a system of communication consisting of sounds, words, and grammar, or the system of communication used by people in a particular country or type of work.” 

If language is a “system of communication”, it will be found in scientific publications. In the past, most scientific publications were made in Latin, but nowadays English has replaced Latin and it is the global language of communication, mainly in scientific publications.

3. Why do you need to speak this language to present projects in International Fairs? 

4. What is your opinion about this statement? “This language is important only in science”.
